bro the word 'history' comes from Greek but go off, disrupt that rigid binarist etymology

9:03 Search blind Women in Tech s/history/hxrstory/ Pinterest · Nepantlas Aug 16 I'm considering submitting a change to our CI codebase to remove the sexist language (history) with more gender inclusive language (hxrstory). "History" is oppressive and we should seek to disrupt the rigid gender binarist approach this word tacitly supports. Recently we have made other changes to remove offensive language from our codebases like "master/slave", "whitelist/blacklist" etc. Language matters and it's our duty to combat oppression, be it ideological, institutional, interpersonal, or internalized. I brought this issue up at lunch today and my white cisgender male coworker sneered at me very rudely. I started thinking and fear that if I open this diff I may be targeted by leadership; who clearly embodies the values of the cisheteropatriarchy. What should I do? Add a comment
